Guide: Utility Account Management

With Backpack, connecting your utility account is seamless making upkeep of utility data easy!

Backpack automatically processes utility bills for six utility types, allowing users to easily view, report on, and export key information on utility consumption, cost, and more. Connecting your utility accounts to Backpack is easy, and only requires credentials, or PDF bill copies.

To Connect Utility Accounts to Backpack:

STEP 1: Search for and select the building you'd like to add utility credentials to.

STEP 2: Navigate to the UTILITIES page, and select 'UTILITY ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT'.

STEP 3: Scroll down to the desired utility and select yes to the setup questions to 'ADD CREDENTIALS'.

STEP 4: A pop out window will open, prompting you to enter credentials.

Information required: 

  • Account Name
  • Account Number
  • Utility Provider (select from a drop down menu)
  • Utility provider URL 
  • Username and password 

NOTE: If your utility provider is not listed, select 'NOT LISTED' and input the provider name.

STEP 5: After entering the required information, select DONE. 

Backpack will work behind the scenes to confirm the information entered, and utility data will begin flowing into the Backpack! 

If your building does not have a certain utility: 

STEP 1: Search for and select the building you wish to update.

STEP 2: Navigate to the UTILITIES page, and select UTILITY ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT.

STEP 3: Scroll down to the desired utility and follow the on screen prompts.

NOTE: This does not mean you submit manual bills for the utility, this process is utilized when a utility is not present at the property.  In the above example, this property does not have gas service & would select "No" on this screen.  Other common examples are a building with no district heating/cooling.
