Reports: Energy Star Certification Report
The Energy Star Status Report gives users a visual breakdown of Certification Status across a portfolio, or by property.
This report puts valuable information at your fingertips
Included in the report are:
1. Current Energy Star Scores across the portfolio in a visual graph
2. Detailed information on scores below 75
3. The ability to go straight from the report to a property to learn more about the utility usage, property setup and historical values related to Energy Star

To View the Energy Star Certification Status Report:
- Login to Backpack, and select the 'REPORTS' tab on the left-hand menu.
- Select 'ENERGY STAR CERTIFICATION STATUS' to open the Status Report.
- The report will populate for your portfolio or properties based on default settings. Learn how to filter the report below.
To Filter the Report
Report filters are listed at the top of the report. There are standard, and advanced filters. Filter options are:
- Property Type
- Fund (if applicable)
- Market (if applicable)
- Asset Manager
Standard filters update the data based on basic fields. To apply a standard filter:
- Select the appropriate dropdown
- Check/uncheck the boxes you wish to filter by
Note: Filter selections can be individually selected/removed, or by using the 'CLEAR ALL' button.
Advanced filters allow for users to filter out individual or groups of properties from the report. To apply an advanced filter:
- Select the 'ADVANCED FILTER' button.
- A dropdown menu of properties in the portfolio the user has access to will appear
- Check/uncheck properties one by one, or using the 'SELECT ALL', 'CLEAR ALL' buttons to achieve the desired result
Once filters are applied you can download the report of the filtered data. Refreshing the page will reset the filters!
Understanding Report Details:
Property Type Charts:
The first section within the report is a visual representation of your portfolio and the estimated Energy Star score for each property in real-time. The properties are broken down by Energy Star score in both a circle chart and graph. To view the property count of a specific section, hover over the respective type.
The following definitions are related to the right-side bar graph and status.
- Certifiable Score - The property has an energy star score that is high enough to meet the certification requirement & may be eligible to be certified (75 or over)
- Ineligible Score - The property has an energy star score that is lower than the minimum required to get certified (under 75)
- Unavailable Score - There is no Energy Star account connected to the property in Backpack likely because the property does not have enough information in the Backpack to create a score or it it not a property type supported by Energy Star
Energy Star Score Rollup:
The Energy Star score rollup section goes a level deeper into the energy star information available for the portfolio displaying the number of current certified properties as well as other useful metrics.
- Properties with Energy Star - the total number of properties that have an energy star portfolio manager account linked to Backpack.
- Total Certified Properties- the total number of properties that are currently Energy Star certified.
- Median Energy Star Score - The middle value energy star score across all the properties in the portfolio.
- Ineligible Score - The property has an energy star score that is lower than the minimum required to get certified (under 75)
- Unavailable Score - There is no Energy Star account connected to the property in Backpack likely because the property does not have enough information in the Backpack to create a score or it it not a property type supported by Energy Star
- Total Properties Eligible for Certification - number of properties with a score of 75 or above, this does not mean the property can be approved for certification by the EPA, only that the score is high enough, the Backpack team can evaluate the property for certification after approval of the services, contact your customer success manager for more information
Property Breakdown Section:
Below the Energy Star score rollup section you can view detailed information about each property. This is the data behind the metrics at the top of the report. Data here can be viewed in multiple ways and can be downloaded to a CSV.
Click on the property name (in green) to go to directly to the Backpack. This is helpful to see what data is available and what might need updates.
Information can be displayed in a “Card” or “Table” view.
- To view the table with a 'card' view, select the CARD option.
- To switch to a table view, select the TABLE option.
Downloading the Report
There are two options to download the report:
- Select the DOWNLOAD REPORT button in the top right hand corner of the report page to download a PDF of the report data.
- Click the download ICON to the right of the CARD/TABLE options to download a CSV of the report data.
